Programs that span the interests of students across all or many of the academic colleges are assigned to the Office of the Provost.

Center for Interdisciplinary Studies

The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies houses a variety of special programs including: 

Forensic Science
The forensic science program  is a multidisciplinary program designed to be integrated with existing major disciplines of study (majors) at USP. A core program of forensic science is coupled to a strong foundation in one of the scientific disciplines offered as a major at USP.

Intellectual Heritage
The intellectual heritage  courses aim to broaden students’ bases of knowledge upon which judgments about themselves and society are made.

The pre-med program  serves students from across the campus interested in pursuing professional education in medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, podiatry, or optometry.

Teacher Certifications
The science teacher certification  program provides educational experiences that facilitate an integrated view of knowledge and a strong perception of teaching as a complex activity leading to Pennsylvania Department of Education Instructional I certifications in biology, chemistry, general science, or environmental education.

Writing Program
The writing program  basic and advanced writing courses to all students.

Writing Center
The Writing Center provides tutorial and other writing assistance to all levels of students.

Honors Program

The honors program at University of the Sciences offers exceptional students the opportunity for specialized, intensive learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.  The program is open to students in all majors, though not everyone can be accepted into this small, highly motivated group of students.

Study Elsewhere

USP offers students several opportunities to study off campus both in the United States and other countries:

University of the Arts
USP and the University of the Arts (UA) have an exchange agreement that allows USP students to take a variety of courses at UA.  Students do not pay additional tuition unless they take private lessons.

Study Abroad
USP and New York University’s Study Abroad Program have an articulation agreement that allows USP students to take enroll for one semester at any NYU campus abroad.

Travel-Study Courses
Each summer the University organizes travel-study courses. These three-credit courses typically consist of a week of study at USP and two weeks elsewhere.

Service Learning

Service Learning is a credit-bearing service activity educational experience in which students participate that meets identified community needs and reflect on the service activity to gain further understanding of the course content, a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility.

Academic Computing

The Department of Academic Technology supports all technical aspects of teaching and learning across the University, including state-of-the-art classroom technology and e-learning (online and distance education) using Blackboard’s Angel learning management system, including 24/7 live support over chat or phone.
