PT 537 - Cardiopulmonary PT II

This is the second in a two-course sequence. In this course students will develop clinical decision-making skills for physical therapy management, consistent with the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, for persons with primary/secondary cardiovascular and/or pulmonary pathology across the life span. This course will focus on evaluation and treatment of the critical care patient, the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation and pulmonary rehabilitation client, and the pediatric client, as well as those with secondary cardiopulmonary conditions. Students will be able to interpret commonly used diagnostic tools, vital sign response, and medications to modify their physical therapy interventions. Finally, students will explore the psychosocial issues of cardiovascular and pulmonary patients and their support systems and explore commonly used quality-of-life tools. Students will use the literature to direct the clinical decision-making process relevant to course topics.
