PP 326 - Parenteral Drug Delivery


This course is designed to review the practical aspects of preparing and dispensing parenteral, sterile medications and medication safety issues relating to parenteral products. Principles of aseptic techniques and contemporary governmental regulations and professional standards of practice for maintaining aseptic environments are discussed. In addition to reviewing and practicing preparation techniques, various methods by which parenteral medications are administered in hospitals and at home, including electronic infusion devices, are discussed and demonstrated. Special considerations of parenterals in pediatrics, home care, nutrition, chemotherapy, blood products, and infection control are discussed. This course will provide students with hands-on experience with intravenous products and delivery devices.
